Book Project

Notes:
-immediately understood my intention because of presentation
-meant to be explored
-on display
-good craftsmanship
-paired patterns and colors nicely

-if it had a lock it would have been like you're looking in something that you're not supposed to

VMFA Visit

Cabinet by Hector Guimard in 1899

Inspired by Nature

Originally planned to be even more elaborate

Part of an overall design of an interior, not a separate piece of furniture

Lines, swirls, & swoops give it movement

Reminds me of waves or vines
Handles are shells or leaves

Love mirrors!

What did the artist use it for?
Art supplies?

I'd use it for clothes & shoes :)

12' tall, very grand, wouldn't fit in average home

Furniture today is fast & cheap.
This looks like it would last forever.
High quality, solid

Not perfectly symmetrical - more unique & authentic

Autumn Leaves Diadem by Rene Lalique in 1900

Made of Horn, Gold, and Diamond

Looks so delicate, like leaves would crunch in your hand
